Coffee Beans

Miho had been learning about what many people called 'the real world' and that she didn't really like it. It was hard and made her feet hurt. But now she was older, wiser and had less of a choice if she wanted to prove to people that she actually could make her own way in the world.

She'd had a job before when Burger World had first opened in Domino City. But she had only really taken it because she thought the uniform was cute. The job had only lasted a few weeks after it quickly dawned on her how much work the catering business could be.

But, short as it had been, she liked to think that the job had helped her find work in the coffee shop. Unlike Burger World, customers gave tips, the bathroom was generally left in a better state and there was definitely a lack of overexcited children accompanied by weary-looking parents. The uniform was a lot cuter too.

All the same, being on her feet for most of her shift made them hurt. A lot. It was always a relief when she scrawled her signature on the staff sign-out sheet. That meant that she could take a slow walk back to her small apartment.

There were two saving graces. The first was that she didn't have to do the job every day. She had managed to get a schedule that worked nicely around the Health and Beauty college course she was taking. Because one day Miho had started thinking about her days back in Domino high school and about how Anzu had always wanted to be a dancer. Because that was what she loved doing. Miho had decided to pursue the Health and Beauty course because she liked dressing herself up and making herself look pretty. So doing the same to other people sounded like the ideal career, as far as she was concerned.

The second thing to smile about was who would be waiting for her when she got back to the apartment. Kisara was always there because she made and sold jewelry from a little desk in the corner of the sitting room. It wasn't much, but it managed to provide enough to pay for her half of the housekeeping.

Because Miho was weary when she came home, Kisara would always have a mug of coffee waiting for her. Miho had never tried the coffee that they brewed at her workplace, but she knew that Kisara's was better. Because it was made just for her.

Kisara was patient enough to allow Miho to play with her hair and experiment with different styles and ways of doing things. But not before Miho lay down on the bed sheets to have her aching feet rubbed. That was something Miho never objected to. Kisara owned what she imagined to be the definition of 'magic fingers'. As they rubbed and massaged her skin, the soreness and aches were chased away, and Miho felt that she would be able to face another day there.

Sometimes Kisara's hands crept up higher than Miho's feet. That was also something Miho never objected to.

For the prompt 'loyalty' at 10lilies.

I wanted to complete one of the prompts with a somewhat odd pairing and found myself suddenly thinking and becoming inspired by this fanart by *SamCyberCat --> [link]

Thank you so much for writing this. :)

Not sure how much it'll mean but out of the 37 deviations I have to comment on from my absence this was the piece I chose to look at and comment on first. Because your writing is something I always look forward too. ^_^ Especially because of the pairing. You're the one person who sees Kisara/Miho in the same way I do and you've worked with it so well. Power to us! :D

It was good to see this was from Miho's point of view because, at least for me, she's easier to connect to than Kisara is. Also because she's a very opinionated character it's good to get in her head and see how her mind works. That's certainly what you've done here. Much love for developing her character from the show, esecially when it comes to her thinking about her future career.

On a slightly off-topic note the theme tickled my fancy because coincidentially I started a case on Phoenix Wright just yesterday that focuses around a Japanese girl who works in a French resturant. ^_^

Face it Zane, it's anime--even with 4Kids to protect you, sooner or later there'll be tentacles.

Thank you for the pic that provided the inspiration.

And that little fact makes me squishy happy. :D And I'm happy to hear that I've done well with the pairing. Miho is a character I'm getting the hang of, and am really starting to enjoy writing, but I've never attempted anything with Kisara before. Looks like I'm doing okay so far. ^^

You're more than welcome. =3

*Nods* Okay doesn't sum it up. ^^ Though admittedly since that other drabble was probably the first time I've wrote Kisara either I'm probably not the best judge. I have trouble connecting to her character in the same way I do to some of the others. ^^;
